ENVIRONMENT

ENVIRONMENT

Big Sur is renowned for its rugged beauty - the striking coastline and dramatic elevation gain.

As the climate changes, we see greater weather extremes - from longer, more severe periods of drought that meet wintertime “atmospheric rivers”. Wildfires and landslides are perpetually in the back of our minds.

We utilize regenerative practices that help sequester carbon from the atmosphere and helps build soil health. This aids the native flora, helps with erosion control, and connects us to a global environmental movement.

Property-managed cattle can be invaluable in our wildfire mitigation efforts. From the break up of dead fall to the grazing off of grasses to keeping back encroaching brush, these large animals can be an important part of a fire mitigation strategy.

Community

Community

The community is at the heart of what we do.

By processing our beef at a USDA-certified facility, we are able to distribute it in individual cuts, making it accessible to community members who do not have access to freezers or the capacity to buy a whole or half cow at a time. This also allows us to sell to restaurants. We know you want to know where your food is from, and we want to know you, too.

We run our cows on properties from the Big Sur Coastal Flats to the Arroyo Seco River. We value the relationships we get to develop with the individuals who own or manage the lands, and the opportunity to connect with those who care deeply about this remarkable landscape.

You can also catch us during the summer at the softball field in the Pfifer Big Sur State Park, where we sponsor one of the teams in the Big Sur Softball League - a beloved community tradition that has been in place since 1974.
